Tokyo, why we love it. A “House & Hotel” city survey. By Francois Jobs. Okura – still under construction. Designed in 1962 by architect Yoshiro Taniguchi, this Japanese modern hotel sprawls in a way that wouldn’t be possible today. Newer five-star competitors lodged on top of office towers boast that they have so many contemporary art pieces they are practically a museum, but the Okura actually has a museum. With its high ceiling and muted lighting, the capacious lobby of the Hotel Okura’s main building…Continue Reading “36h in Tokyo – Hotel Okura / Tokyo / Japan”
House & Hotel Magazine features Hotel B Cozumel, a small boutique hotel nearby Cancun and Playa Carmen. The island has been popular for its diving and sports and there is even an annual Iron Man but not known for luxury accommodations. After traveling the world working for former Mexican President Felipe Calderon, Beatriz Tinajero decided to join her family’s hotel business, but saw this ideally located property as an opportunity to shake up the Cozumel accommodations scene. Tinajero describes the place as “chic, design” with…Continue Reading “Hotel B Cozumel / Cancun / Mexico”
To Conserve, to Sustain and to Heal – The Shillim state of mind – contributed by Jens Hoffmann. House & Hotel Magazine features a new destination, the Hilton hotel in Shillim on the outskirts of Mumbai. This rather unknown new Shilim in the mountain village is where the Hilton’s new spa retreat is located. The location that it resides in could as well turn out to be one of the best things. We landed in Hanoi. It was 2011 when we checked in @the Rex Hotel, the most famous luxury hotel in Saigon. For over 80 years, the Rex Hotel has stood as a landmark and a witness to the trials and tribulations of the city. Originally built as a French garage for cars in the early 20th century, in 1959 the Rex Hotel, was expanded into a 6-floor trading centre. It was leased to the American Cultural Center in 1960, at which time the Abraham Lincoln…Continue Reading “Five o’clock follies – Hotel Rex / Ho-Chi-Minh / Vietnam”
Amsterdam & Noordwijk. Grandhotel Huis Ter Duin in Noordwijk, not far away from A’dam in the Netherlands is a nice location. For centuries Noordwijk was a fishing village, in the 1880 the mayor thought that Noordwijk had more to offer than just fish. An elegant seaside resort would result in a better catch. In 1883 he broke ground on the highest point of the dunes and the elegant Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin was opened in 1885. Two years later the textile merchant Heinrich Tappenbeck…Continue Reading “Travel to Holland – Review: Grand Hotel Huis Ter Duin / Noordwijk / Netherlands”
House & Hotel Magazine features a fantastic new travel and hotel experience. A hotel between a caravan, room and a lovely hotel in a traditional building. The idea is that this suit can be placed in a beauty spot, but then easily removed without any ecological damage as a consequence of its presence. Its design draws inspiration from organic shapes found in nature. The use of lightweight materials allows the modules to be installed on a great variety of terrains and to be transported to…Continue Reading “The Drop eco hotel / worldwide / everywhere”
After arriving in Shanghai International Airport, we took the skytrain which was fantastic. Acctually we reached 455km/h, amazing. We checked in at The Ritz-Carlton in Pudong. Things I liked most, the rooms are all luxuriously decorated; beautiful deep-soaking bath tub, high-tech, you can get panoramic view of the bund – if you choose the right room type – which is nothing less than amazing. This could be one of the best hotels in the world. But the problems are the overall service level. Unfortunately it…Continue Reading “Puttin on the Ritz – Hotel Ritz-Carlton Pudong / Shanghai / China”
House & Hotel Magazine features Switzerland. We checked in at a great former private place which was transformed in a beautiful 5 star hotel. The hotel makes you feel more in luxerious home than at a hotel and it makes you happy. As usual Relais & Chateaux places are great. The Villa has 37 large Suites, Junior Suites and Deluxe rooms, all equipped with air-conditioning. Precious curtains and large and comfortable sofas separate the bedroom area from the living room. Bathrooms, with marble pannelling are…Continue Reading “Swiss elegance – Hotel Villa Principe Leopoldo / Lugano / Switzerland”

We loves the world sexiest hotel!! Faena Hotel Buenos Aires is located in 445 Martha Salotti Street. It is a project of fashion designer Alan Faena, courtesy of a rather familiar name: Philippe Starck. Largely absent, though, is the signature look that defined Starck’s work for Ian Schrager in the Nineties, the white and airy minimalism of the guest rooms and the light-hearted whimsy of the public spaces. Faena is an entirely more serious-looking place, on the gentrifying Puerto Madero Este waterfront, converted from a…Continue Reading “Me gusta Hotel Faena in Buenos Aires”
House & Hotel Magazine loves extraordinary architecture and houses. So take a look, at Gervasutti Refuge in Italy ia Prefab Tubular Alpine Pod Home. A solar-powered tubular mountain cabin that was installed on Mt. Blanc – by helicopters! This energy-efficient prefabricated pod was built out of high-quality materials that have zero impact on the sensitive environment in which it was placed. Since it is a temporary structure and fully recoverable, mountain climbers who brave the 9,300 foot summit can use it to take shelter from…Continue Reading “House Gervasutti Refuge / Courmayeur / Italy”
It is always great to be in China, House & Hotel Magazine made a presstrip to Shanghai, Mandarin Oriental. The hotel is spectacularly located on the banks of the Huangpu River, lying in the heart of Pudong’s central financial district. It is surrounded by the skyscrapers of Lujiazui. I got a unique blend of style with a stunning design, world-class restaurants, serene spa and Mandarin Oriental’s legendary service.
