Lajos Veszeli – A Life between Mythos and Painting
Lajos Veszeli (born 1945) is one of the most important contemporary Hungarian painters and is often referred to as one of the most controversial figures in the Hungarian art scene.
As “Don Quixote of Balatoni” he is understood in his attitude to Art and Society: a fighter against the Establishment, which undermines traditional conventions and remains deeply rooted in the cultural and historical roots of his home.
The Balaton (“Hungarian “Oceans”), the largest lake in Central and Eastern Europe, functions in Veszelis Works not only as a geographical element, but also as a living metaphor for identity, culture and the Hungarian soul.
Don Quixote– the idealistic knight who fights Windmills – find always in his art.
For Veszeli, Don Quixote is more than a literary character; it is a symbol for his fight.
Veszelis art works are already in some private collections worldwide, soon in the Ludwig Museum Budapest and in many galleries.
They belong in every art collection.
Despite his international success, he remains a Künstler who does not stand in the shadows of the global art scene, but always keeps his roots and celebrates the Hungarian identity in his art.
