House & Hotel Magazine features the Met, we spend some lovely days in the north of Greece.
As always it was great to be on the mainland, besides the perfect greek islands.
We spend the night in a great 5 star design hotel – The Met.
It was hot and just fabolous, our room was spacious, the air con worked well, it was 30 degrees.
We loved it to be in the MET and felt just good.
There was a nice swimming pool on the top which was not even crowded.
A bit about greece.
You’ll be hearing “Yasou” all day long- but just what is being said? The word is one of those wonderful multi-purpose terms, which is used along with its more formal cousin, Yassas. Both words mean, roughly, “Your health!” and can be used as either a greeting or, less frequently, a toast when drinking – usually raki or ouzo in a traditional setting, but it can be used just as correctly when imbibing any drink.
Yasou is the more familiar version, used among equals or to supposed “inferiors” such as children. “Yassas” is more respectful, a bit old-fashioned.
and is ideally used when addressing an older person.
Ok lets go back to the MET. Conveniently situated on the harbour of Thessaloniki, within easy reach from the city centre, THE MET HOTEL provides outstanding boutique hotel comfort and bountiful amenities for business and leisure travellers.
The Met – has 212 guestrooms and suites, a faboulous spa and other facilities that ensure a great stay, luxury with innovative décor, impeccable service and personalized attention to detail reflect a refined business ambiance and timeless elegance.
The hotel is a member of the Chandris group, a leading hotel chain that owns and manages properties in Greece.
If you are travelling and flyin out from Athens, our resto tips:
Try the greek basement taverna on the corner of Sokratous and Theatrou at the bottom of the fruit and vegetable market.
There are no menus but you can look around and see what everybody else is eating. It’s almost like a private club and it is a little intimidating.
The wine list is great and the drinks comes sometimes without even asking for it.
The grilled fish was incredible and all the other things (vegetables, bread, meat) as well.
We tried everything and a few other things at the surrounding tables looked good aswell.
Another traditional estiatorio at # 3 Sokratous Street is the brand new Meidani right by the corner of Evripidou Street. Perfect lunch address, great red wines and a very large -fine- menu which includes just about every Greek oven dish you can think of plus bakaliaro me skordalia, podi, and some salads.
Unfortunately it is only open in the daytime. If you are in the mood for a fine air-conditioned restaurant with a large traditional menu and a few interesting entrees that will satisfy you.
Come over, Zorbas is waitin for you.
