Today House & Hotel Magazine features Switzerland and the Swiss alps. On our arrival in Zurich, we remarked a different looking, nice house, better an office in Zurich. It looks great and it looks funky, the “Freitag” bag store in Zurich that’s made from recycled freight containers. It is completely built from rusty, recycled freight-containers. Lovingly they were gutted, reinforced, piled up and secured. Zurichs first bonsai-skyscraper: Yes we are In Switzerland, low enough not to harm the strict city restriction on high-rise buildings, but…Continue Reading “Store “Freitag Bags” / Zurich / Switzerland”

Morocco 2012. I like this place and especially Marrakesh. The Yves Saint Laurent exhibition house and gard presents a very-well designed interior of a Moroccan house. It includes reinterpretations by Saint Laurent of caftans -traditional clothes for women-, Capes, Sarouels and soft furnishings. Cloaks, embroideries, Turkish trousers, head coverings and flowing Moroccan style gowns; the creations on show make explicit reference to the Moroccan clothing tradition that inspired Yves Saint-Laurent. Their colors also evoke those admired by the artist in Marrakech: the orange of saffron,…Continue Reading “The famous Majorelle house in Marrakesh / Morocco”
The “Hammerhouse” house was built in 14th century as a residence that grew larger as time passed, the owner family acquired it through marriage in the early 18ths expanding it as their logging and iron empire grew. It has long been known as the Hammerhaus, or “hammer house,” after the tools used to temper iron. The 5,380-square-foot building had fallen into disrepair. Mold covered many of the walls, floors were caving in and the roof leaked. The stream was not only running past the house,…Continue Reading “Rock me Amadeus – Hammerhouse Vienna, Austria”
Small can be big, the smallest and most intimate 5-Star-Boutique Hotel in Zurich. The historic hotel building, under heritage protection, dates back to 1895 and was renocated in its original splendor. The Hotel combines fin-de-siècle elegance with the high-tech comforts of today. Funny story, the name ‘Alden’ comes from the old English word ‘Aldwyn’ = ‘old friend’…
We love Greece, everyone knows Hydra. Beautiful eco island with many claims to fame. Just covering 55 square kilometres it has one of the most gorgeously picturesque harbours in the Aegean. And, astonishingly for a place only 64 kilometres from Athens, its primary mode of transportation remains the donkey. Several art exhibitions of a high standard take place annually in the Miranda Art Gallery. Hydra is only 45 miles from Athens and the island has become a stronghold of contemporary art. Tucked into the town are several world-class…Continue Reading “Houses Island Hydra / Greece”
