House & Hotel Magazine likes this great holiday location and the Forte is definetly the perfect resort on Sardinia.
We checked in@ one of the wonderful “The Dune” bungalows next to the beach. At the resort you will find great suites which are practically on the beach, others are secluded villas with private gardens. All are exclusive havens of privacy and peace. Created for our most discerning, demanding guests, all offer extra services such as a British-style Butler, Chef or Chauffeur. The utmost discretion and the finest personal service can be relied upon.
Other typical restaurants are available upon reservation without supplement, while some gourmet and a la carte restaurants require a reservation and a supplement. We enjoyed it, so why Forte Village and why Sardinia? Hmm, Roman Abramovich, a regular visitor to Forte Village, loves kicking a football around with his children, his bodyguards and the general manager, Lorenzo Giannuzzi. He conceived the idea of a training school at the village run by in-house coaches from the Chelsea soccer clinic in the UK. The school is now a major draw.
Our week wasn’t about football. We enjoyed the beach, the weather, Gordon Ramsays resto and the great Thalasso spa.
Forte Village itself, close to Pula, is the second-largest employer in Sardinia, the biggest is an oil refinery. Having changed hands several times over the past decade, the resort has found a stable berth within the Eleganzia Leisure Group. Fifteen hundred clients were in residence while I was there, half to play sport and half to lie around the pool reading books.
A destination of that size is never going to be an oasis of peace. Punters and staff alike buzzed around in golf buggies, and in the evening a cabaret act blasting away in the piazza was different fun.
Forte Village is popular with Italian footie stars, we had eg. just missed Fabio Rosso. It’s also quite popular with Russians, so copies of Izvestiya appeared each day and waiters offered menus in Cyrillic language.
Anyway, different strokes for different folks, it was great fun to be there. Give it a try, especially with kids.
