The famous The Ark hotel opened in 1969, it overlooks the Yasabara waterhole, perhaps the largest salt-lick in the Aberdare Mountains and the haunt of a variety of forest game unequalled in Africa. This tree-lodge is uniquely shaped to resemble the actual Ark, designed with decks from which numerous balconies and lounges provide superb vantage points for viewing the animals visiting the salt-lick and waterhole.
A ground-level bunker provides special photos and the Yasabara waterhole is floodlit by night to enable all-night viewing of game. A Resident Hunter is always on hand to elucidate on the wildlife and landscape.
Do not miss the big 5, is made up from:
Giant African Elephants are magnificent beasts which tend to be rather tame, these intelligent animals sometimes put on an act for human attention which they receive from the safari Jeeps.
White and black Rhino‘s are very timid creatures and a spotting can be rather rare on a single safari, these mighty animals are easily spooked by any foreign sounds movements so it’s best to act with precaution and care around these unpredictable animals.
Lions are the rulers of the planes and are mostly spotted patrolling savannah grasslands or watering holes always keep an eye out for an easy meal, if you ever get the chance to witness a pride of lions on the hunt your will realise how smart and tactical their natural killing instinct is.
Cape Buffalo are a common sight during safari’s, but caution has to be kept around these large animals as there mood is incredibly unpredictable and they can turn exceptionally aggressive at the bat of an eyelid.
The last animal is the elegant leopard, the rarest sight of all as only reveal themselves at night and with their perfectly suited camouflage spotting on can prove to be rather difficult.
