Yep, most architects or anyone in general know the policies about illegal roof structures.
In Hong Kong it is different, the funky third “bedroom” is often an illegal structure because it is built on the rooftop terrace. The builidngs are often 40 years and more old and the structures were built back towards the beginning. It is concrete and has an adjoining bathroom and is connected to the rest of the flat with a small internal staircase.
The HK government has been really cracking down on illegal structures and it has been discussed in a number of Chinese news papers concerning fines
People love their flats very much but need to find out more accurate information about the roof structure to properly assess whether to stay on or leave. They need to find out what constitutes a roof structure that is “compliant” and therefore, renders it legal. Or if there is no such thing and that inevitably, they all need to be torn down. In which timeframe, China is different and HK is not even China, stay tuned.
Explore, dream and discover.

Living in style.
