A shrine to various eastern cultures, a gourmets playground and a place for a secret rendezvous.
Check-in at the Savoy hotel, it was in 1913 when the doors opened for the first time with a great party.
The beautiful neoclassical building soon became a prestigious address and it is still an interesting place in the historical center of Moscow. The original five-storey building had the most recent equipment of the time, as elevators, phones in the rooms, and safes.
Among the hotel guests there were Isadora Duncan and Antoine de Saint Exupéry. Moscows inteligenzia honored the hotel reception with their presence, reading their new poems.
After the Russian Revolution and the World War II Savoy remained the main attraction for the children of Communist elite.
In 1959, in honor of the 10th anniversary of German Democratic Republic, the hotel was renamed Berlin and started specializing on guests from Germany and Austria. After fall came down in 1989 the hotel got his historical name back.
Celebrities like Montserrat Caballé, Luciano Pavarotti, José Carreras, Maradona, Richard Gere, Patricia Kaas, Cindy Crawford stayed in the place.
In December 2005, Savoy Hotel had its second birth. It finished certification in the “5 stars” category and became the first Russian representative of prestigious league of «Small Luxury Hotels of the World».
The redesign was made by Leonardo Tognoni, who previously restored Palazzo Barberini and Borghese Gallery in Rome, as well as Uffizi Gallery in Florence. The retro style of the hotel’s past collaborates with the fashions of today. The important trend was the use of natural materials as wood, marble, wool etc. Fusion and grandeur of the hotel allows positioning it as hotel boutique. The five-star Savoy is located direct in the heart of the Russian capital, just steps away are the Bolshoy and Maly Theaters, Red Square, the Kremlin museums, fashionable boutiques, cafes and nightclubs. Reflecting the Moscow lifestyle, the Savoy combines gracious traditions with state-of-the-art guest room amenities. An restoration and renovation gave the Hotel Savoy its rebirth. While preserving its original glory and charm, the Savoy now offers its guests the highest level of luxury and comfort.
The Savoy was in 1913 the first hotel in Russia, hmm, sure it was designed to to mirror the opulence of the palace of Versailles… Take a look.
