Located on top of the Spanish Steps, the palazzo near to Church Santa Trinità die Monti is the very place to be in the italian capital.

It is managed by Roberto E. Wirth, the 5th generation of a famous dynasty of Swiss hoteliers.

For over a century the Hassler been recognized as one of Europe’s legendary independently-owned five-star luxury hotels, synonymous with the highest quality of service, attention to detail and discretion – the Hassler experience.

When I got to Rome, I just came back from a presstrip to the Tyrrhenean Sea, Tuscany and had just one other night to stay in Italy before flying back to Hamburg. It was an warm evening in April when I entered the Hassler – and I fell in love at first sight. It is a Grand Hotel as a hotel can be, decorated in an elegant and sophisticaed style. My room was located on the second floor with a breathtaking view over the rooftops. As the hotel is a palazzo built in 1885 there are not so many rooms with balconys but

I was lucky and got one.

The room itself was decorated in coulors of gold and creme and the antique tapissery – gold and creme also – was provided by glass from the floor up to the ceiling.

All the rooms and suites in Hotel Hassler are designed by Mrs. Astrid Schiller Wirth, the wife of General Manager Roberto E. Wirth. She uses to give every room it’s very own look with details of Art Deco or contemporary styles and does a mix with antique furnitures and precious carpets and cushings.

So I felt very comfortable and because of the smooth air and the stunning sunset I decised to stay on the balcony with a glass of Frascati and to say good bye to Rome in this way. The noise of the street got a little bit calmer and when the lights went on, a billions of stars layed there to my feet – absolutely great. This was my ultimate Hassler experience.

Our tip: get a bit of Napoleon in Roma, you could miss any mention of Napoleon’s reign in Rome, which lasted from 1798 to 1814. Dreams of empire were his fantasy and he even shipped in Pope Pius VII for his imperial things in Paris. Rome became his favourite destination and he instructed his army to haul back cartloads of marbles and Old Masters. But his mother lived happily on Romes Piazza Venezia, the “Museo Napoleonico” contains pieces relating to the imperious Frenchman’s family.
You will enjoy it.
