Summer in Greece on Greek islands

Contributed by Jens Hoffmann

Wow! Wow! Wow! I am losing myself while travelling to Greece the sixth time this year.
I took Aegean Airlines to Athens and then to Mytilene.

I always wanted to travel to Lesbos. It is one of the most unique and beautiful places in Greece.

Lesbos is a unit of the North Aegean region, and is one of five governing islands within it.
The capital is Mytilene. The population of Lesbos is 90,000, a third of whom live in its capital the remaining population is distributed in small towns and villages. Acctually we drove about 700km in three days. The sun and the moon act harmoniously embellished by the warmth of its people.
We went to several beaches, the longest one was in Vatera. Impressive deep blue waters and 30 degrees.

Another big wow.

Lesbos

Lesvos is like a “symphony” in the Aegean.

The third biggest of the 2000 greek islands offers many variations. During our tours we saw all kind of different landscape, history and culture.

We tasted amazing local food like pulpo, octopus, fresh vegetables and lovely wines.
Long time ago a volcano created the island. It created one world of lush greens, a hiker’s paradise, and an expanse of salt flats and wetlands.
I enjoyed it so much, the relaxation and silence, our walking tours and the sunset in Molyvos.

As the sun exposes every line, nook and cranny in the bare rock, the music of the earth swells to its grand climax and for a few moments it’s volcano day again.

And striking a surrealist tone in the midst of it all is the island’s undoubted centerpiece, the petrified forest on the march from land to sea, the legacy of an ancient lava flow twisting nature into scarcely credible guises of which Dali himself would have been proud.

Monasteries, tiny chapels perched on clifftops, stately mansions, stone-clad homes of frugal elegance all vie with the natural wonders for your attention.
Lesbos

The fortress of Molyvos lends a bombastic strain.

The capital, Mytillini, with its cobblestone lanes, marble staircases, rooftops, grand neo-classical dwellings, ornate fountains and Ottoman baths resounds with the influences of East and West and in the villages.

Easy to enjoy the greek hospitality.
