The taste of the landscape and originals will make the country the leading culinary destination in Europe.

The multifaceted landscapes have always been experienced on the plate.

After a 15-year break, the Michelin Guide has now awarded 82 MICHELIN stars, 33 green stars and 43 Bib Gourmand awards for the whole of Austria.

The restaurant Steirereck in the Stadtpark (cover photo Heinz Reitbauer & Jens Hoffmann) and the Amador from Vienna received three stars.

On January 21, 2025, the Michelin Guide Ceremony and announcement of the new Austrian selection took place in Hangar-7 in Salzburg.

In addition to numerous chefs who received their awards, the event attracted VIPs and national and international journalists to Salzburg to celebrate the excellence of the local gastronomy.

The MICHELIN Guide’s selection of restaurants not only highlights the diversity of culinary arts, but also underlines the high importance of gastronomy and the international orientation of Austria as a culinary and tourism location.

The return of the MICHELIN Guide and the ceremony were initiated by the Austrian Tourist Board and the state tourism organizations.

The awarding of the MICHELIN stars is a milestone for Austria’s culinary arts and a strong sign of the international appeal of gastronomy.

The Viennese restaurant Steirereck in the Stadtpark – previously awarded two stars in Vienna’s restaurant selection – has now made it into the top league. This extraordinary achievement is thanks to the individuality and authenticity that owner Heinz Reitbauer and his team, led by head chef Michael Bauböck, bring to the plates in this location.

“Definitely not off-the-shelf cuisine. The dishes are not overly intellectual or overloaded. The food here is light, fresh and cooked with impressive elegance and complexity of flavor,” is how the MICHELIN inspectors express their full enthusiasm. At Steirereck, guests are shown impressively that luxury products are not always necessary for absolute top-class cuisine: a “veal beuschel with chive dumplings and marjoram” also impressed the inspectors, as did the overall remarkable selection of the menu, which also includes some classics and many regional products. A big compliment also goes to sommelier René Antrag, who shines with real wine expertise.
The Steirereck in the Stadtpark shares the top gastronomic spots in Vienna and Austria with the Amador restaurant, which is housed in the Hajszan Neumann winery and has long been awarded three MICHELIN stars for Juan Amador’s creative cuisine.
