Lovers of standard luxury will be disappointed. However, those in search of select moments in a unique jewel will find their travelling dreams come true at Louis C. Jacob. Hamburg offers a plethora of stunning views. But the breathtaking outlook on the Elbe from this 5-star hotel is truly unbeatable.

Those who value the Hanseatic way of life will love the hotel.

Arrival in Hamburg. We took a ICE from Berlin and then we are heading out of downtown on the way to the hotel you’ll see the city from its most attractive side. The trip there is a journey itself. The Elbchaussee is lined by grand facades and capitains cottages dotting the extensive parklands. The view to the left opens up over the harbour, an industrial backdrop its cranes in constant motion, forming an imposing contrast to the serenity that settles over everything in sight.

Finally, the dignified merchant’s mansion.

Entering the lobby, the sophisticated city domicile already revelas its elegant ambience and hanseatic design. The hotel is without doubt one of the jewels of the Hamburg hotel scene.

A warm welcome by three of the 143 “Jacobiner” (nick-name for the employees).

We checked in at the blue suite # “264”.

Our suite is equipped with everything you need a huge bed, coffee machine, art deco, lovely marble bathroom and lovely amenities.

Hotel Louis C. Jacob: Elbzimmer

On the table we found a welcome cake for the kids and a bottle of “Ruinart” champagne for the parents.

Walking through the mansion we discovered a collection of paintings, in total more than 500 paintings, prints and artworks. The owners are passionate about art and we felt like in a museum.
Even the kids loved it to walk around and enjoyed the paintings. On the well known Lindenterrase you can relax and watch several ships passing through.

Lindenterrasse Flussabwärts

Opposite the river you can see Airbus and the Finkenwerder private airport exclusively used for corporate, freight, test and delivery flights. Finkenwerder is fully able to handle the Airbus A380.

Do not be surprised when from time to time someone is “killing” the joyful tranquility.
We stayed here at the week-end, unfortunately no happy landings and take-offs.

Elbsuite

During the walk through the hotel we remarked a painting by the impressionist Max Lieberman (worth more than a few million dollar!).

Liebermannsuite

He resided at Louis C. Jacob for some time (1902) and brought fame to the hotels linden terrace with his painting of the same name.

One of the hotels finest old school suites is named in his honor.

Furthermore the hotel has a lovely ice cellar, perfect for wine tastings.

So beautiful.

Eiskeller

Culinary experiences of the highest standard are revealed at the hotel restaurant “Jacob” which boasts two Michelin stars. Having enjoyed the lovely in a wonderfully elegant ambience; guests can see out the day at the Jacob bar. Bar and resto are located just in the same building.

Feinschmecker

The food by two Michelin stars Chef de Cuisine Thomas Martin got several prizes and is amazing paired with the Elbe view and lovely wines.

We enjoyed a fantastic breakfast, elegant style and yummy.

Jacob Frühstück

The quality of it was very high, the food tasted amazing. We tried Egg Benedict, poached eggs and “Krabbenrührei” – scrambled egg with crabs and black bread named “Pumpernickel”.

Everything with a view, nice to watch the ships pass through.

Next time we will watch out for the Queen Mary 2. It must be amazing to watch this ship with hundreds of guys waving flags at the terrace, usually they play music, as they are partnering with the Queen Mary 2.

That means they are celebrating every time the ship is coming or leaving.

As wonderful as it is to stay and do nothing in this hideaway, the fabulous surroundings simply have to be explored – on the new elegant “Barkasse MS Jacob”, a private sight seeing or a winetasting in the cellar. In brief: it is unusual in the best sense of the world. A perfect place for extraordinary moments. We really enjoyed the Louis C. Jacob, a lovely place with great history.

Over 225 years ago, a cannonball misfired and triggered the establishment of the Jacob as an enterprise.

But what’s the tie between a cannonball and a Huguenot in exile?

Total: The Louis C. Jacob has lovely rooms and suites, amazingly prepared food and the warmth of all the “Jacobiner” make the hotel a place to visit again.

If you love tranquility and the sea you are right here.

I am in love with this hotel and will come again.
