A perfect honeymoon. Contributed by Till Brunecker.

The Pacuare lodge is an oasis for all of the senses.

We thought that our honeymoon should be something unique. After all, you do not marry every day.

Costa Rica has always been on our travel wish list. So the round trip with honeymoon highlight afterwards was our favourite. We discovered the lodge at edeltrotter.com. Before the beginning of our journey we had already read everything about the Pacuare Lodge, but the reality was even more spectacular.

Only driving through the coffee plantations and the jungle with the Rover and crossing the Pacuare River with the cable car was a very special experience. The lodge is located in the middle of the jungle. Some of the bungalows and suites are situated beside the river, others can be found up in the trees, like tree houses.

Take a look: We chose the Canopy Suite, up in the tree tops, with access via a suspension bridge. Awesome.

The cuisine is markedly inventive. The cooks are from the area and use local ingredients to create a mix of exotic and international dishes. We had dinner twice. Once riverside by candlelight, with white laid table and six courses. Absolutely wonderful and romantic moments! The second dinner was the most crazy one, up in the trees, at “The Nest”. You sit up there, all around the sounds of the jungle and you enjoy the finest dishes.

Lodge-neighbours told us they lived in the Riverside Suite and had not arrived with the Rover, but went up the river with boats. It was really thrilling for them and they said it was much more adventurous than driving with the Rover.

At the riverside Jawa Juü Spa there is a shamen house where they offer treatments with rare essences from the jungle.

We once had a massage with hibiscus and eucalyptus, another time we tried a massage with healing herbs and healing earth from the area. This was really good! The staff was so nice and unaffected. We loved it.

The lodge is part of a natural reserve and all materials used for building it up are from the area or from certified wood cultivation. That is good to know to have a good conscience. The whole area has no
electricity and it is illuminated only by candles and lanterns, which creates an atmosphere more than romantic.

Unfortunately, we had no time for the activities offered, but if you like you can go rafting, hiking, visiting the Indians and more. These days in the rainforest were something really special.

Sure, we could get married again…
