Bad Saarow, contributed by Jens Hoffmann.
We made a Easter -family- press trip to Bad Saarow. It’s just a 40 min drive from Berlin-City.
After arrival we checked in at the smallest first class hotel in Germany, the well-known Villa Contessa.
It is easy to see why people love to come to this hotel with only eight rooms.
Villa Contessa offers the perfect atmosphere to achieve happiness, a romatic little hotel with softly tranquil massage rooms and perfect massages sits right on the shore of Lake Scharmuetzelsee.
The hotel Villa Contessa is the smallest, first class a 4star hotel, we got a nice room with a great view.
It offers a cosy spa area with saunas (bio and finish), hamam, beautiful massage treatments and a great feel-well treatment.
A beautiful garden gives you prefect relaxation.
All in all it was a great experience, the hotel offers a friendly service and we enjoyed our Easter stay.
The perfect place for a diner is the restaurant in the Villa Contessa.
Fish, beef and vegetables on a high level together with a nice Sauvignon-Blanc.
Finally a nice desert. Fantastic.
We had a lovely night.
The history of Bad Saarow is worth it to tell, the famous german poet Theodor Fontane was so inspired when he visited Bad Saarow (1881) that he named the area “March Sea”.
The extensive area of natural beauty is full of fun and the Scharmützelsee lake – the largest in the old March of Brandenburg – is the heart of this lush oasis of relaxation and is even connected with Berlin’s waterways via the canals of Storkow. You will be astounded by the peaceful seclusion and idyllic beauty of the countryside.
In the roaring 1920s Berliners came out to lush green Saarow to summer by the lake, it had all the time high-profile guests and celebrities like Winston Churchill and german chancellor Angela Merkel.
Churchill loved to play golf in Bad Saarow. Indeed it is fun to play golf here, Bad Saarow offers two 18 holes courses, one of them is designed by Nick Faldo and a nice public 9 hole course.
We had a great time in the idyllic town Bad Saarow, just 40 minutes’ drive south-east from Berlin.
