Luxury escapes in Oman – Hotel Dunes by Al Nahda

If you are looking for special places, you must visit Oman.
The travel industry is always looking for hideaways for the “Happy Few”. This target group is in the focus of investors, luxury brands and travel agents.
There are two thousand billionaires and twenty million millionaires in the world.
Wow!
Some of them should travel to Oman. That’s why I looked at the Sultanate, saw and experienced a lot.
We flew from Dubai to Muscat. The capital is located on the sea – surrounded by desert mountains.
Although Muscat included its neighboring suburbs of Mutrah, Ruwi and Qurum have over 700,000 inhabitants, Muscat-City, the historic old town, itself has only 30,000 inhabitants.
It lies in a bay enclosed by rock walls and, like the entire sheikhdom, radiates a pleasant serenity.
The perfect starting point for a city tour is the magnificent Muscat Opera House, the smoothly polished marble floor in front of the entrance shines in the sunlight. The marble and concrete opera building looks like a special kind of fortress.
Guest appearances by famous artists such as Al Jarreau, Placido Domingo and the Vienna State Opera made the Opera House already famous. The Sultan loves classical music, which is probably the reason why he financed the multi-million dollar building. They do not have a permanent philharonica ensemble, but a visit of the building belongs on the bucket list and the “happy few”. The musical diversity is guaranteed, many rock and opera stars have promised gigs.

The Great Sultan Qaboos mosque belongs on this list as well. Oman is a balancing act between western and oriental culture. It looks back on a thousand years of maritime trade tradition, wants to be cosmopolitan and try to keep its treasures.
Fifty years ago there was only a few kilometers of proper roads and streets. A growing number of holidayguests are nowadays on the road to explore the country in a rental car.
Muscat is extensive, there is hardly any public transport, so you need a vehicle to visit the city and country.
For sure a very special experience is a morning excursion to the fish market, from here it is great to drive along the harbor promenade, visit the souk and have a look at the palaces.
At the bottom of the Arabian Peninsula is Oman, next to the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
Huge desert landscapes, stony mountain ranges, wonderful sunsets enchant us in the world of Sindbad and fairy tales from 1001 nights and a lot of fun.
